It was in 1976, through sheer tenacity and know-how, that Paul Durieu built his winemaking cellar.

The estate is located in the heart of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Built from 1615 by the Marquise de Senozan, then given to Jean le Power, an Irish nobleman who traded in wine; the building has undergone profound transformations, while retaining its authenticity.

As for the current vault located on Avenue Baron le Roy, it is installed in a former cooperage workshop.

At the time, Paul owned a few hectares of old vines in Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône, inherited from his father, Henri Durieu; then some old plots, some of which had been replanted before the First World War, inherited from his mother, Lucile Avril. This family of distinct winegrowers had belonged for several pontificates to the aristocracy of La Treilhe, the very family that contributed to the universal renown of the city of the Popes.

The grapes undergo a 20-day fermentation with daily stirring (remontage) and are aged for 9 months in concrete tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit.

Nose: Aromas of ripe black berries, fresh figs, and red berries.

Palate: Described as "juicy" and full-bodied, it balances a lively, fruity taste with present but integrated tannins. It often shows savory notes of black pepper, spices, and a touch of earthiness.

  • Meats: Grilled or marinated meats, roast beef, and duck (magret de canard).
  • Simple Fare: It is an versatile "all-round" wine that pairs well with a simple omelette or meat-based pasta sauces.
