Jean-Baptiste Ponsot, Rully "En Bas de Vauvry" 2023 is a high-quality white Burgundy (100% Chardonnay) from the Côte Chalonnaise. While the vineyard sits in the heart of the Premier Cru hillside, it holds a Village-level classification.
Jean-Baptiste Ponsot is frequently cited as a rising star, with his white wines noted by Guide Hachette for their ability to rival more expensive appellations like Puligny-Montrachet.
Vineyard: A 3.03-hectare plot on mineral-rich limestone soil, replanted by Jean-Baptiste between 2000 and 2009.
Winemaking: Aged for 12 months in oak barrels (20% new) followed by 3 months of tank assembly. Sustainable ("lutte raisonnée") with no herbicides or pesticides.
Aroma: A bold nose featuring floral and citrus notes (candied lemon), ripe apples, and a touch of honey.
Palate: Crisp and mineral-driven with a "flinty" character. It offers a creamy, toasted texture from oak aging, balanced by racy acidity. Long and persistent with fresh white fruit and a subtle mineral streak.
Pairing: Excellent with seafood, poultry in creamy sauces, or white charcuterie.
Grape: Chardonnay
Region: Burgundy
Rating: Vivino 4.2
