The 2014 Olivier Merlin Bourgogne Rouge "Les Cras" is a light and perfumed red wine made from 100% Pinot Noir. This specific cuvée comes from a small parcel of roughly 0.90 hectares located in La Roche-Vineuse in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy.

  • Size: 0.90 ha (2.22 ac)
  • Vine Age: Planted in the early 2000s
  • Terroir: Southeast-facing, 5% slope, 250-300 m altitude, quaternary middle Bathonian limestone.
  • Viticulture: Sustainable, 8,000 vines/ha.
  • Vinification: 0-100% de-stemmed depending on ripeness, fermentation in open-top wooden tanks with daily punch-downs and pump-overs, aged for 15 months in barrels, no fining, light filtration.

  • Style: It is classified as a "Light and Perfumed" red, emphasizing elegance over power.
  • Tasting Notes: Critics and tasters have noted a crimson red color with high-toned aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and spice. On the palate, it typically offers sleek, intense flavors with a refreshing acidity.
  • Production Details: The wine is often fermented with a portion of whole clusters (around 50%) to add aromatic complexity and structure. The vines in "Les Cras" were planted in the early 2000s on a southeast-facing slope.
